Thats correct, you heard right. An Americanized version of the famous automotive British show is coming to the History Channel.
It's good because since the god awful failure of Knight Rider, no network program wanted to touch another car-related show. Jay Leno, who had rejected offers to host the show, basically stated that a show of that kind would not be successful in the States. Finally, Jeremy Clarkson (one of the hosts from the UK Top Gear) said that the American version of Top Gear had been "canned." Personally, if Jay had taken the offer, he would make it too top heavy in the host category with him and two other people who no one had heard of. Not to mention they would not have the chemistry that was needed to make the show good.
When the dust settled from the last fiasco, in August 2010, the web was delighted to see a sneak preview of a new production of a US Top Gear on the History Channel. The decision for the History Channel was twofold. First, was the fact that no networks would go near it. Second, and probably a better reason, is because History is such a big channel so that it doesn't need to rely on advertisments (especially from car people). Thus, there is no need to sway the reviews from one manufacturer to another, making for better and more brutally honest TV. Which I can speak for a lot of people when I say "Thank you History Channel. For that I will watch that special on 'What Jesus Ate When He Was Alive' even though it will still bore me."
Enough of that. Here are some trailers.
